FHSU American Democracy Project Poster Contest
These posters are part of a project that is done each year to shed light on political and social issues that are happening in our state, country, and world. Its purpose is to create a component of civic engagement in our curriculum, as well as to use the students' design talents to express their own opinions. Opinions and statements made as part of this class assignment do not reflect the opinions of Fort Hays State University.
Children too young to be vaccinated are the most vulnerable to disease and illness. We must protect them and other at-risk groups by vaccinating ourselves and those old enough to receive them. 2–3 million deaths are prevented each year thanks to immunizations. If we can spread the proper information on immunizations, even more lives can be spared. Purposely being against vaccinations is irresponsible, so please educate yourself for the benefit of yourself and others.
Affection from human beings is something babies need to develop and learn, but they often get handed a piece of technology so they “keep quiet” or “aren’t too much trouble.” A tablet has no longer become a quick fix, but a full-time babysitter. Physical toys and people have become less of a priority to children because children have become less of a priority to parents. Stop viewing children as an alarm to be silenced. They need interaction from a human, not a tablet.
We know the Friends cast like the back of our hands, yet, can we say the same for the next leader of our country? We cannot take a presidential candidate for face value as we do with sitcom characters. As a citizen, you must educate yourself by doing research on each candidate to find the best person for the job. This poster was made in the year before the 2020 presidential election.
Which yields more: an investment in a corporation or an investment in humankind? Although there are plenty of generous people in the world, we need to do more. People all over the world are suffering every day, and we must help them. It is a doable task with the help of the world’s most wealthy. We cannot leave our own kind behind.
Children are typically not exposed to the cruelness of the world until later in life. If a child were to be invited into an anonymous van during recess, many different situations could occur. The cold, hard truth is that they would most likely be taken to a new location to be trafficked. We must protect children from this type of tragedy that occurs every day by teaching them to be aware of their surroundings and the danger signs.
